4/15/2024 0 Comments Concrete encased duct bank detail![]() It actually makes us look good, that the contractor can only find one thing we've "overdesigned" and it doesn't amount to anything. The engineer is requiring an additional single 4/0 bare ground to be run in the concrete duct bank along with the pvc conduits. So we laugh, and say put it in per design. I have an underground duct bank with (12) 3 1/2' pvc conduits, each with (4) 500 kcmil and (1) 250 kcmil EGC, 480 vac, feeding an MCC in a facility, encased in concrete. Duct-bank materials, including separators and miscellaneous components. UNDERGROUND DUCT BANK AMPACITY CALCULATION CONCERNS & CONSIDERATIONS. So we have them quantify the amount the owner will save, and it invariably comes out to $5000 or $10,000. Conduit, ducts, and duct accessories for direct-buried and concrete-encased duct banks. Concrete-Encased Ducts: Support ducts on duct separators. DETAIL 6 6 Cables per phase 760 mm 190 mm 190 mm 190 mm 450 mm 640 mm. Pitch the trenches uniformly toward manholes or both ways from high points between manholes for the required duct line drainage. Side note: Whenever we have a VE (Value Engineering) phase on a project, the first thing the contractor wants to eliminate is duct bank reinforcing. After excavation of the trench, stakes shall be driven in the bottom of the trench at 1.2 M (4 feet) intervals to establish the grade and route of the duct bank. There's no real design, but I have used the reinforcing to span the duct bank over a temporary trench. They're reinforced with #4's around the perimeter at 12 inch spacing and #4 ties at 24 inch centers. Duct bank electrical systems consist of underground concrete encased vessels used for laying and protecting cables incased in PVC pipes or conduits. There's a lot of casual concrete (waste concrete, thrust blocks, foundation extensions, etc.), but if the backhoe operator sees red, he's been warned. There's a lot of reasons that don't hold up to close examination, but bottom line is, that if you're in a water or wastewater treatment facility, you're likely to be digging a trench through it or a hole into it. We reinforce electrical duct banks and require them to be red.
